Meteora Monasteries Day Trip
Discover the breathtaking monasteries suspended in the air at Meteora.
Overview & Important Information
Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Greece's most striking sights—huge sandstone pillars rising from the plains of Thessaly, with medieval monasteries built on their summits. This private day trip offers a comfortable, direct way to visit this unique site from Thessaloniki.
Dating back to the 14th century, these monasteries were built by monks seeking refuge from political instability. Today, six of the original monasteries remain active and open to visitors. Your private driver will take you directly to the viewpoints, allowing you to visit the interiors of 2 to 3 monasteries (depending on opening schedules) and enjoy spectacular views of the Thessalian plain. We recommend a lunch stop in the nearby town of Kalabaka.
What is Included in the Tour:
- UNESCO World Heritage Site — one of Greece's most iconic cultural sights
- Comfortable private round-trip transfer with an English-speaking driver
- Visit 2–3 monasteries and see all six sandstone rock pillars
- Stop in Kalabaka for a traditional Greek lunch

The sandstone pillars of Meteora are absolutely breathtaking. Having driven this route many times, I recommend starting early in the morning from Thessaloniki to beat the tourist crowds. Remember that the monasteries enforce a strict dress code (shoulders covered, long skirts for women, long trousers for men). We will visit 2 or 3 of the finest monasteries, and we can stop for a wonderful traditional lunch in Kalabaka.
